Why us?

Established since 1988, the Bachelor Programme of Indonesian Language and Literature provides a learning space to observe how Indonesian language and literature has an important role in everyday life. Literature is not merely reading and writing, but it is very close to other cultural products, and there is no activity without language.

The Bachelor Programme of Indonesian Language and Literature consists of three area studies: Language, Literature, and Philology. The three are interrelated and continually reviewed and developed through a curriculum redesign that is carried out every five years to harmonize with the development of scientific and socio-cultural dynamics. A number of courses such as Dramaturgy, Folklore, Lexicography, Language Editing, Text Preservation, Poetry Writing, Rhetorics, and Semotics equip students with abilities to read and examine the phenomenon of languages, literatures, and manuscripts, as well as skills to produce creative products.

As part of the Faculty of Humanities Universitas Airlangga, Bachelor Programme of Indonesian Language and Literature is supported with adequate facilities to carry out offline and online learning. Students also have the opportunity to optimize their social skills through a number of activities in student organizations.

Located in Surabaya as the capital city of East Java Province, the Bachelor Programme of Indonesian Language and Literature provides opportunities for students to come into direct contact with multicultural activities and dynamics as well as local cultural heritages. This strategic location also allows students to build networks with academician, practitioners, and literary/art communities.
