INDIAIR is an international program at Universitas Airlangga where participants can learn about Indonesian cultures and diversity as part of its endless cultural entanglements with the region i.e Southeast Asia. Thus, students are expected to get the benefits of the diversity of Indonesia by learning Indonesian cultures through a variety of interesting and interactive media and programs. Moreover, INDIAIR offers the opportunity for the students to embrace and apply the true meaning of tolerance in a pluralistic society.
In a more specific nuance, the Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Airlangga, serving as the organizing committee for the INDIAIR program this year, brings the theme of “Truly Nusantara: Exploring Cultural Heritage on East Java” as an example of the dynamics of cultural diversity in Indonesia. It is presented in several enticing main topics, the connections of Nusantara popular music across border, presentations of Surabaya, the capital of East Java, from the perspectives of its historical and cultural heritage, its multicultural people, and its unique Javanese dialect. Contemporary East Javanese cultural and musical expressions represented by dangdut koplo, parikan, and ludruk are also discussed. Therefore, it is expected that students can obtain an ample illustration of Indonesia’s cultural diversity through these exciting, interactive, and thought-provoking presentations.
