Remarks from Programme Director

The rapid advancement in technology and massive exchanges of information have significant implications for the development of social, cultural, economic, and business aspects. This development and progress require skilled individuals ready to compete. These individuals will need the skills to rapidly access information to master and utilize human knowledge (Science, Technology, and Arts) for the benefit of all.
In the effort to realize the motto of Universitas Airlangga “Excellence with Morality”, the Bachelor Programme in English Language and Literature has a vision to produce skilled and quality graduates both at the scientific and applied levels; who are responsive to the development of science and technology and are able to exhibit good soft skills. This is achieved by designing the curriculum in accordance with the Indonesian Qualification Framework. the Bachelor Programme in English Language and Literature has three areas of specialization, namely linguistics, literature, and cultural studies. This specialization is expected to equip prospective graduates with sufficient English language competence, higher-order thinking skills in language, literature, and culture, as well as independence, creativity, collaboration skills, and other soft skills to support them in real-world competition.
These competencies will not be sufficient if not accompanied by practical knowledge. Therefore, the Bachelor Programme in English Language and Literature provides its students with applicable and appreciative courses such as Business Correspondence, Introduction to Public Relations, Interpreting, Translation for General Purposes, Introduction to Media Studies, Introduction to Film Studies, Entrepreneurship, Computer -Assisted Language Learning, and Teaching English as a Foreign Language. The goal is for graduates to be immediately absorbed in the job market, especially in the fields of media/journalism, education, tourism, information business, and government, both national and international.
