International Conference on Urban Studies: Language, Culture, and Globalization in Southeast Asian Countries

Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Airlangga held the 1st International Conference on Urban Studies in December 11th 2008. The main theme of this conference is “Language, Culture, and Globalization in Southeast Asian Countries”. Globalization, language, and culture have increasingly been shown to be very closely related. In terms of scale, the number of economic, ecological, demographical, political and social linkages is greater than in any previous time in history. In a globalizing world, people have to face the challenge of adapting not only to their local culture but also the global society. Therefore this symposium seeks to contribute to expanding body of knowledge in the issues related to globalization, language, and culture. We invited sessions and panels that follow the conference sub-themes for presentations:
